Charles Alva "Bud" Blunk, 80, of Monon died Saturday. April 3, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill for nine months.
He was born at Monon on December 6, 1923 to George H. and Myrtle M. Quadlin Blunk.
He married Jeanne E. Crawford on November 5, 1954 in Monon. She survives.
He attended Monon High School and lived in the community most of his life.
He and his wife had wintered in Magnolia Park in Donna, Texas for the past 22 years.
He was a rural mail carrier, retiring after 25 years at the Monon Post Office.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II from 1943-46 as a Technical Sergeant in the 1lth Airborne Division, 188th Glider Infantry in New Guinea, the Philippines and in Okinawa and Japan. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 319 in Monon, where he served as past commander. He was a 21-year member of the Monon Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief, assistant chief and secretary and served as an Emergency Medical Technician for six years.
Other survivors include daughters Charlene (Steve) Lee of Monon and Cheryl Blunk of Lafayette; a brother, George (Leona) Blunk, Jr. of Monon; granddaughters Jennifer (Garry) Bower, Chanda Lee and Mackenzie Lee, all of Monon and great grandchildren Kayla Bower, Lauren Bower and Luke Bower, all of Monon.
Three sisters are deceased.
Funeral service was Tuesday at the Kellogg Funeral Home with Rev. Mathew Picket officiating.
Burial, with full military rites, was at Osborne cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monon United Methodist Church or the Monon Volunteer Fire Department.
