Helen L. Adwell Besse, 90 of Monticello died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She died during surgery for repair of a broken hip suffered earlier in the day.

She was born February 8, 1912 in Benton County to Harry and Harriet Steely Adwell. She married Louis 0. Besse on April 11, 1931, in Fowler. He died January 30, 1967.

She was a graduate of Pine Township High School.

She moved to Montice1lo from Brookston in 1972.

She was a homemaker, and a avid bridge player.

She was a member of Brookston Untied [sic] Methodist Church.

She was a former member of Psi Iota Xi sorority, Chi chapter, Brookston.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy (Robert) Foster and Susan (Joe) Raub both of Monticello; two sisters Wilma Adwell and Evel Halstead both of Tuscon [sic], Ariz., and three grandchildren.

A sister, Eva Franklin, is deceased.

Services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Lelan MeReynolds officiating.

Burial was in I.0.0.F. Cemetery, Brookston.
