Stella Jane Abney Berry, 82, formerly of Chalmers, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Hartselle Hospital in Hartselle, Alabama.

She was born August 21, 1911 in Thorntown to Warren and Catherine Izora Arnold Abney. She married Jason E. Berry in Fowler on March 4, 1938. He died Oct. 29, 1987. She had lived with her daughter in Hartselle, AL the past six years.

She and her husband farmed in Round Grove Township in White County before moving to Chalmers in 1968. She was a member of the Baptist Bible Church in Chalmers.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Dean Mead) Bolan of Hartselle, AL; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Louise Lawless and Mrs. Betty Knowles, both of Lafayette; a brother, Richard Cross of Lafayette; and four grandchildren she raised.

Two sisters and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Charles Fluckey officiating.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
