John Benakovich Jr., 70, Monon, died Saturday, October 21, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
He was born May 31, 1930 to John and Mary Siskenintz Benakovich Sr., in Chicago. He was married July 23, 1955, to Mary Ann Corner, in Crown Point and she survives.
He served four years in the U.S. Marines and was a Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard for 30 years.
He worked at RCA in Monticello for 30 years and at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette for 10 years.
He was a member of the VFW Lodge and American Legion Lodge, Lafayette. He also was a former member of the Monticello Moose Lodge and Monon Eagles Lodge.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Ronald Lee Benakovich, Monon; a sister Helen Zorich, Chicago; brothers, Melvin and Dennis Benakovich, both of Chicago and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating.
Burial was in Chapel Cemetery, Monon, with full military rites.
