Walter A. "Bud" Bartlett, 80, of Monon died Monday, March 15, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He was in failing health since July 2003.
He was born October 11, 1923 in Benton County, the son of Frank Lee and Mary Catherine Bartlett. He married Mona M. Tascone in Reynolds Indiana in [sic] May 28, 1994. She survives.
He lived in White County most of his life and was a World War II Navy veteran, serving at Pearl Harbor. While in the service, one of his best friends was Ernest Borgnine the actor. After the war, Bud had the opportunity to go on location to see Ernest Borgnine filming one of his movies. He owned a DX Bulk Plant in Monticello and was a farmer.
He also had worked at the former Chemtron (Alloy Rods) where he was a welding inspector. He had also worked at Douglas Fertilizer Plant (now Monticello Farm Service), both of Monticello.
He was a member of the White County Saddle Club and had served as president. Bud enjoyed square dancing, traveling, rodeos and Branson, Missouri.
Other survivors include; a daughter, Linda M. (James) Spangle, Monticello, Ind.; a son, John D. (Lisa) Bartlett of Belfast, Ireland; a step-daughter, Cheryl Ann (Harold) Beckefeld, Star City, Ind.; four stepsons, Daniel K. Beckefeld, Plainfield, Ind., Ray P. Beckefeld, Lafayette, Ind., Darrin (Dana) Beckefeld, Chicago, Ill., Gary (Dana) Beckefeld, New Lenox, Ill.; seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
One sister, Louise Gilmore and three brothers, Willard, Mike and George Bartlett are deceased.
Friends may call at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, Monticello on Friday, March 12, 2004 from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Les Bucher officiating.
Burial will be at Riverview IOOF Cemetery, Monticello.
