Ethel M. Oliver Barrett, 85, of Chalmers, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
She was born November 17, 1917, in Tippecanoe County to Chester W. and Ruby Stanfield Oliver. She married Elmer D. Barrett, Sr. on December 20, 1934 in Lafayette. He died on May 4, 1989.
She attended Battle Ground and Brookston schools.
She was a former janitor at Chalmers and Brookston schools, and was also a homemaker.
She was a former member of the Chalmers Baptist Church.
She resided in Monticello Assisted living and Healthcare for the past two months.
Surviving are a son, Elmer "Sonny" (Linda) Barrett, Jr., of Chalmers; brothers Robert (Carolyn) Oliver of Burnettsville and Max (Jean) Oliver and Elmer (Betty) Oliver, both of Battle Ground; sisters, Irene Pierce of West Lafayette and Jane (Jim) Culver of Delphi; five grandchildren, Chris (Angela) Swisshelm, Jeremy Swisshelm, Trevor (Agnes) Swisshelm, Brooke and Evan Barrett; son-in-law, Bill Swisshelm of Schererville, IN and two great grandchildren.
Brothers, Joe, Chester, Charles and Clifford Oliver; sisters Agnes Oliver and Mabel Minardo; daughter Mary Ann Swisshelm, and grandson William Swisshelm are deceased.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Jan Dimick officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
