Don Carl Barnhart, 77, of San Bernadino, California, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born in White County on September 29, 1928 to Lloyd and Gladys Ellen (Botts) Barnhart.
He attended Monon High School until the age of 17 when he enlisted in the US Army. While serving in World War II, he was stationed in Germany, attached to Graves Registrations, where he had to find and identify bodies of American soldiers. He also served in the Korean War as a gunner.
He married Betty Lou Childs on August 15, 1949, in Earlville, Ill. She preceded him in death.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #421, Highland, California.
He was a plasterer in housing developments and a member of Plasterers & Hod Carriers Local #79.
Survivors include two brothers, Harold Max and Delbert of Grandview, Texas; one sister, Alma Spencer of Mammoth Springs, Ark.; two granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; also dear friends and caregivers Truman and Mary Holcomb.
One son, Basil Stephen (Toad) and two brothers, Mervin of Monon and Herbert of Weatherford, Texas also preceded him in death.
Burial was Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Montecito Memorial Park Mortuary, Loma Linda, California.
