Essie M. Miller Baker, 88, 403 Oakview Dr., Monticello, died Thursday, July 4, at 5 p.m. in the Monticello Healthcare Center, where she was admitted April 16th.
She was born Aug. 11, 1907, to Cyrus Franklin and Lesta Criswell Barrett, in Brookston. Her first marriage was to Alfred Miller, Dec. 24, 1925 and he died March 25, 1956. Her second marriage was to Rev. Everett Baker, Nov. 17, 1962, in Lafayette and he died Sept. 10, 1974.
She worked at Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette for several years. She moved from Brookston in 1986, to Monticello.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Monticello.
Surviving are two brothers, Wilbur Barrett, Monticello and Mason Barrett, Brookston; two sisters, Grace Nelson and Mrs Stanley (Lillian) Newhard, both of Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Alberta Miller, Monticello; two grandchildren, Mrs William (Connie) Maffett, Monticello and Greg Miller, Delphi; six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Two sons, a sister and two brothers are deceased.
Services were held Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
