Burdell Wolverton Baker, 87, Chalmers, died Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 3:10 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.  He had been hospitalized since Dec . 10 and in failing health two years.

Mr. Baker retired from farming and moved to Chalmers from the farm in August 1965.

Born March 17, 1901 in Monticello, he graduated from Monticello High School in 1919 and Indiana University in 1923.

Mr Baker was a member of Monticello Presbyterian Church and Columbia Club in Indianapolis and was a supporter of the Democrat party.

A member Phi Kappa Psi fraternity for more than 50 years, he was a board member emeritus of the fraternity.

There are no immediate survivors.

Service was 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev William C. Weckerly officiating at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.

Interment was in Monticello Cemetery.
