Beulah Evelyn Altman

Beulah Evelyn Wann Altman, 83, 3777W-7005, Chalmers, died Sunday morning, May 25, at her home.

She was born July 10, 1913 in Cissna Park, Ill, to Daniel Baxter and Marie Gruessing Wann. She was married May 28, 1935, to Francis J. Altman and he survives.

She was a 1931 graduate of Chalmers High School and 1933 graduate of Indian State University.

She retired after teaching for 26 years. Her first teaching assignments were in one-room school houses in White County. She later taught at Chalmers Elementary School, retiring in 1975.

She was a life member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, Chalmers. She was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds and the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Sodality.

Surviving with her husband are six sons, Francis Danton and Jerry Dean, both of Monticello; Kenneth Eugene, Charles Raymond and Phillip Jack, all of Chalmers and William Joseph of Muncie; a daughter, Virginia Altman Erickson, West Lafayette; four brothers, Earl Wann, Golf Shores, Alabama, Ivan Wann, Melott, Dean Wann, Tecumseh, Mich. and Robert Wann, Indianapolis; a sister, Lucille Lehmann, Belville, Ill.; and 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Five sisters and a brother are deceased.

A funeral mass was conducted at 19 a.m., Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds, with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating.

A rosary was conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Beulah Altman Scholarship Memorial Fund for able Frontier students pursuing a teaching vocation.
