Merrill C. "Lex" Alexander, 76, of Brookston, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He had been in failing health since the middle of August.
He was born April 16, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA. His family moved to Dayton, Ohio where he was raised and educated.
He attended Purdue University in 1947 where he met his future wife, Paula K. James. They married November 26, 1949 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette. She survives.
Lex owned and operated Tippecanoe Motor Sales in West Lafayette from 1958 until retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed restoring cars, boating, and collecting coins.
Other survivors include his four children, Lisa J. Harvey, Gary P. (Lynette) Alexander and Ruth M. (Kevin) Brooks all of Lafayette and Thomas D. (Leslie) Alexander of Smithfield, Virginia and two brothers, Donald M. Alexander of Portland, Oregon and Thomas L. (Janet) of Big Fork, Montana; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents Donald & Marjorie Alexander.
Services were at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston on October 5th.
Memorials may be made to Riley Children's Hospital in gratitude for saving his first granddaughter Karen's life.
