Elnora Klaiber Acheson, 86, of West Lafayette, died Thursday, June 22, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born April 25, 1914, to Louis and Mary Pattee Klaiber, in Americus. She was married May 23, 1938, to Claude Densel Acheson in the family home near Soldiers Home. He died June 8, 1988.
She was a 1932 graduate of Battle Ground High School.
She worked as a bookkeeper at S. S. Kresege until 1939.
She was a Tippecanoe Township Trustee from 1967-70 and an election board worker. She served on the Tippecanoe County Extension Board and was a director of the Tippecanoe County Exhibit Association.
She was a member of Battle Ground United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the OES, a member and former officer of the Pleasant Grove Grange, the Tippecanoe Co. Pomona Grange, and the Indiana State Grange, where she served as state treasurer.
She was active with Alcoa Retirees Club and Cairo Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed playing euchre and watching her grandchildren in their activities.
She is survived by a son, retired Col. Denny (Melba) Acheson of Omaha; daughters, Claudia (Donald) Peterson of Williamston, Mich. and Pattie (Dennis) Frist of Round Grove); sister, Marie Nelson, Lafayette; grandchildren, Marrisa Acheson, Capt. Melissa Acheson, Anna-Lisa and Mark Lonier, John and Paula Kerber, Capt. Mark Kerber, Stephen Kerber, Johanna, Erin and Lucas Frist.
A sister, two brothers and grandson, Kurt David Kerber, are deceased.
Funeral service was Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
