Rules
This is a brief overview of the rules. Rules may
be changed at anytime by a majority vote of the board of directors.
I.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSA.
Physical Condition
1. A statement must be obtained from the
parents or guardian or their family
physician, stating that the participant's
physical condition affords the participant the capability to participate in the
program. 2.
The standard release form provided
by the Lafayette 56ers, Inc. must be properly signed by the participant's parent
or guardian and submitted to the league prior to any participation by the youth. B.
Age and Grade Requirements - Youth in the
5th or 6th grades will be eligible to participate as players in the
56ers league.
- Youth in the 3rd and
4th grades will be eligible to participate as players in the
Junior Broncho league.
- Youth
in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades will be eligible to participate as
cheerleaders in the 56ers league.
- Youth meeting the
above grade requirements shall be under 13 years of age as of July 31st of the
current year.
- Each participant shall sign
a Lafayette 56ers Code of Conduct. All participants will agree to not use illegal
drugs, alcohol or tobacco at any time during the season. Lafayette 56ers shall
be notified of any prescription drugs the participant takes. All participants
will agree to conduct themselves in a manor becoming that of Lafayette 56ers during
the season and anytime they wear their Lafayette 56ers jersey.
C.
Physical Stature
- Participation will be denied to a participant weighing
less than 70 lbs. or over 210 lbs. at registration for the 56ers league.
- Participation
will be denied to a participant weighing less than 50 lbs. or more than 150
lbs. for the Junior Broncho league.
- These
requirements are not designed to be discriminatory in nature, but are designed
to afford the maximum amount of protection to the participants and at the same
time allow for the greatest possible participation.
II.. TEAM SELECTION
- Team selection will take place following
the second week of conditioning practice.
- Each
players name, grade, weight and rating will be placed on a piece of paper.
- A
matrix with one column for each team will be set-up. (for ease explanation, we
will use an example of four (4) teams.)
- The
four best players (running backs) will be selected and placed
in the matrix from left to right in descending rating. The next four are placed
in the next row of the matrix from right to left in descending order. This sequence
will repeat until all backs are on a team. When a sibling of a previously chosen
players paper comes up they shall be placed in the column with their sibling.
When a coaches child's paper comes up, the row of players shall be placed aside.
The same process will be used to fill a matrix of linemen.
- The running
back matrix columns will be rated, and the linemen matrix columns will
be rated.
- The highest rated running back column will be matched with the lowest rated
linemen column and
assigned a team number. This process will be repeated until all columns are assign
a team number.
- The teams will be reviewed.
If the coaches do not agree that the teams are distributed evenly, the process
will restart from the beginning.
- Each team
number will be placed in a hat. Head coaches will draw a number from the hat in
order of seniority, highest to lowest.
- The
rows containing coaches players will now addressed. The coach's child is assigned
to the team assigned to the coach. The remaining players will be placed in the
hat and draw by the head coaches in seniority order. This process will repeat
until all players have been assigned to a team.
- Team
selection is final.
III. ATTENDANCE
- Each player must participate in each practice and game.
- It
shall be the head coach or assistant's determination to play a player in a game
who has missed practice. In arriving at this determination the head coach or assistant
coach will consider:
a. the participant's physical condition b. fairness
to the participants who did not miss practice c. the effect on the attitude
of the participants who did not miss practice - In
the absence of the head coach, the first assistant coach will follow the above
rules.
- Any
participant who comes to practices or games that has been using illegal drugs
or alcohol will be permanently suspended from the league.
A.
Games
- Each participant will participate in a minimum of six (6) plays per
half, and have a starting position.
- A kick-off team will be considered
one play.
IV.
EQUIPMENT A.
Required equipment issued only by Lafayette 56ers, Inc. shall include:
- A NOCSAE ( National Operating Committee on Standards
For Athletic Equipment) approved helmet and face mask.
- Approved
shoulder pads.
- Approved hip, kidney and tailbone
pads (or girdle).
- Approved football pants
with pockets for knee and thigh pads.
- An
approved mouthpiece unless issued by physician.
B.
Required equipment furnished by the participant shall include: - Athletic supporters
- Athletic
shoes (football shoes) - NO METAL SPIKES
- White
Athletic socks.
C.
Inspection and Approval of Equipment - It is the responsibility
of the head coach or his assistant coaches to inspect each participant's equipment
before all practices and before all games. NO EQUIPMENT - NO PARTICIPATION!
- Mouthpieces
must be worn by each participant at all practices and games.
- All
participants who wear eye glasses are required to have a three (3) cage and face
mask and an eyeglass safety stray.
V.
NUMBER SERIES
A. Any running back will wear a "1"
through "39" series number.
B. Any lineman will wear a "70" series number.
C. Any linebacker will wear a
"60" series number.
D. Any participant wearing a "60" series number can play
interior offensive line (tackle to tackle) and can play defensive line
(tackle to tackle) and inside linebacker.
E. Any lineman can only
play on the offensive or defensive line in a center, guard, or tackle
position.
VI.
INSURANCE A. Supplementary
Accident Insurance
- The Lafayette 56ers, Inc., Youth Tackle
Football Program has only supplementary insurance (with a $50 deductible) for the participants.
- In
an injury situation, you as parents or guardians will have to file for the participant's
injury with your own insurance company.
- What
your insurance company does not pay can be filed with the Lafayette 56ers, Inc.,
Youth Tackle Football Program.
VII.
CHEERLEADERS A. Cheerleader
Coach and Assistant Coaches - All cheer
squads will have a cheerleader coach.
- The
cheerleader coach and any assistant coaches must be present at all practices and
games on time.
- The coach is responsible
for the conduct of herself and all assistant coaches.
