higher resolution images. Trip Report: Nov. 8, 2000:
This trip is part vacation and part business. Both Jo & I will be attending
classes at COMEX and attending the exposition. Doug went to the Purdue Airport
to pick up the rental car to the Indy airport. There wasn't a car reserved,
but this problem was worked out. On arrival in Las Vegas, Dollar Car Rental
told me the number I had was a confirmation number, but I didn't have a reservation
because I reserved over the internet. They couldn't honor my $129 for a
full size car. But, they could put my in a min-van for $9.95/day.
I didn't go for the bait and switch. Instead I went to Avis and was treated
very well. By the time we checked in to Paris,
It was 2:00 AM. The clerk asked if we would mind being upgraded to a suite
for no additional charge. We accepted. I won't mention the casino.
It wasn't nice to me. We visited the Aladdin, Desert Passage shopping mall
and drove to Boulder to do some shopping and museum among other things. When
our 2 nights were up and we went on my employers dime, we moved to Desert Paradise
for 7 nights. On Saturday, we met our guide and took a tour of Death
Valley with a group of 3 from England. COMDEX was COMDEX. Some
good and poor classes along with too many vendors to visit in one show. The
next Friday, we checked into The Rio Suites (back on my dime). On Saturday,
we met our guide and took a tour to the Grand
Canyon with a British couple. The VP was not being nice to me, so I
changed machines and changed my luck to go positive for the trip, but that turned
around I left the RIO even up for the trip. We planned on being in the Parade
in the Sky, but it was dark that weekend. We then moved to the Sahara for
the last 2.5 days. I lost more, but finished with an upswing that returned
most of my loss. We took a tour of the Shark
Reef at Mandilay Bay.
