Microsoft has given us Windows 95, 98, ME, XP and now VISTA?
Microsoft came out with a new version of Windows in January of this year.
What does it give you that your old XP doesn't? Some of the new features
"under the hood" include: easier to use, faster, better security, better
backup and restore for your data, more stable, easier networking, new
explorers to simplify working with files, faster more efficient searching,
more multimedia tools, and really good parental controls which allow you
to choose how and when your children (or employees) use the computer and
internet.
Can I put VISTA on my existing computer? If your computer was purchased in the last 3 years it can probably run VISTA or be easily upgraded to run it. If it is much older it might be time to plan to replace your older computers to keep up with the newer software and all it brings us. For your existing computers to run VISTA they must have: at least an 800 mhz processor (faster is better), 512 meg of RAM (though 1 gig or greater is better), DirectX 9 capable. Learn if your computers will run VISTA -- call the shop at 765-563-3504 or download this free program, Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. Want to see if your Windows XP-based PC can run Windows Vista? Just download, install, and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. This small software tool will scan your computer and create an easy-to-understand report of all known system, device, and program compatibility issues, and recommend ways to resolve them. The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor can also help you find the edition of Windows Vista that best fits the way you use your computer. While XP had Home and Professional versions, Vista has five different versions: Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise & Ultimate. Though they are all essentially the same, you are able to get the Windows that does only does what you need. Before you run the Upgrade Advisor, be sure to plug in any USB or other attachable peripheral devices (such as printers, external hard drives, or scanners) that are regularly used with the PC that you're evaluating. Click HERE to download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. After you download this program, run it. It will tell you if Vista will run on your computer, which versions of Vista will work for you, warn of potential problems and suggest upgrades to help you run Vista better. The program allows you to print out your report. Print one out for each computer you want to find out about. After you have the report(s), you can either print it out and bring it in to Dave's, fax it to us, or e-mail it to us at: tech@dcwi.com. We can help you understand what the various warnings and recommendations mean. Also what the relative benefits of any recommended upgrades. The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor works with 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. It will not work with Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
