Several interesting places here, including the state and national forests. One other intersting stop: everyone talks about the St. Meinrad Abbey (one county south), but stop in Ferdinand (the town, not the state forest) and visit the Ferdinand Benedictine Monastery. It looms over the little town of Ferdinand like an alien mothership, and is impressive inside as well. Not that I'm endorsing any sort of religion, but hey, the Benedictines were Cadfael's order. You can also find canoe access to the Patoka River here, although it is not listed in the Indiana Canoeing Guide -- it just shows public access points in the DeLorme Indiana Atlas and Gazetteer; you do have a copy of that, don't you?
