Lots of good road food and great for lunches and dinners, too. Unlike many delis they have tables so you can sit down and eat your meal there.765-563-6371.

J & J Roadhouse

305 Chalmers Road, North end of town, where SR 43 curves

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Daily lunch specials and sandwiches. A great place for delicious homemade pie, with 3 or 4 kinds daily. How refreshing to eat in a restaurant that isn't a chain. 765-563-3408.

Corner Cafe

121 W. Third St., S.E. Corner SR 43 and Third Street

Daily lunch specials. Smoking is allowed. This spacious corner building has been a restaurant since the 30's when the threshing crews would come and dine family style. (Formerly named Joe's Restaurant, the Corner Cafe suffered a fire in mid-March 1996, caused by a child playing with matches. Although there was major damage, we are lucky the building was not completely destroyed. It is back open for business after some major hard work and rebuilding.) 765-563-4010.

Dave's IGA Deli

North end of town on SR 43

This little deli at the back of the store is attached to the meat market. They have a pretty remarkable selection. In addition to all the regular meats and cheeses, they also ahve an abundance of salads, (potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, etc.) and a hot table with fried chicken, potato skins, bar-b-que, etc. Dave's IGA is located at the north end of Brookston on the west side of SR 43. Great road food or good for a fast meal when the cupboard is bare or if you want to give the cook a night off. 765-563-3366.

Kerr's Candies

401 Prairie St.

10am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 10 to Noon on Saturday. After lunch this is the place to stop in for a perfect treat. (Chocolate lovers beware!) Carol and Kenny's handmade candies that are delicious. Many hand-dipped varieties. Attractive boxed and novelty items make great gifts. Personal favorite: Pralines and Cream. 765-563-6855.

Special supper every Friday evening. German theme decor. 106 E Third St., 765-563-3788.

Noble Romans Pizza

Corner of SR 43 & Third Street

Located in the Family Express, Noble Romans has large and personal pan pizzas. They also have bread sticks with your choice of nacho cheeze, marinara sauce, or garlic butter. Mighty tasty. Be careful not to order a large pizza "with everything" without first asking the price -- they are very expensive!!

Top Notch Tavern

113 W. Third Street

Open 10am til 10pm or so Monday thru Saturday. Bar sandwiches, fries and mushrooms are available at lunch and on weekday evenings. Coke, domestic beers, and mixed drinks. The "economy" burger is 12oz of meat. Neat old bar and back bar. Lots of Purdue paraphenillia. The placemats, designed by Pam, are always humorous and interesting. Friday and Saturday nights, Pam and Gary serve the best steaks you'll ever have. The fillet mignon melts in your mouth. Catfish and frog legs are very tasty. Be sure to check-out an order of onion rings. Wonder about the Ancient Sex Stone? Don't ask! 765-563-6508.
