Apple Popcorn Festival

2006 is the 30th annual Brookston Apple Popcorn Festival. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th, 7 am-5 pm, rain or shine. Two all-American favorites play center stage on a day brimming with activities, including: 200 craft booths, contests, entertainment, music & a great variety of food booths. Brookston's annual festival always takes place the third Saturday in September. This is the time to celebrate the local harvest, rich with apples and popcorn. Brookston-Prairie Township Public Library

Brookston Prairie Township Public Library was founded in 1916 when the property taxpayers of the Town of Brookston and Prairie Township agreed to tax themselves to support th library. The land was purchased in 1915 through donations and the building was constructed in 1916 through the grant from the Carnegie Corp.
With over 20,000 books on the shelves, the library outgrew the original building. 1992 was the ground breaking of a 5,426 sq. Ft. Addition and the complete remodeling of the existing 3,669 sq. Ft. The renovated building now houses a new community room, a larger historical room, a seminar room and a teen room.

The Brookston Town Hall is the place you go to get your water and electricity turned on. The Council meets here twice a month. Located on the north end of town, Dave's IGA is a nice size grocery store. Good meat department, adequate fresh fruits and vegetables. Everything a family needs to put food on the table and keep the dog and cat happy. Sale items all the time. Unlike the giant grocery stores, you don't have to waste a lot of time and gas getting there, you don't have to park a mile away out in the parking lot, and you don't have to hike up and down ten miles of aisles just to buy a hundred dollars worth of groceries. They have large tobacco assortment, lottery tickets, and a selection of videos. The Frontier Dollars For Scholars chapter is organized to provide local students with academic support and financial aid to encourage higher levels of achievement. Citizens in our community have formed Frontier a Dollars For Scholars chapter to rally around our students, to give them a boost, and to ensure that they reach their highest potential. Local volunteers raise money to help Frontier students afford the cost of higher education. All money raised stays in the community to support our local students. Jessup Paper Box

At Jessup's they manufacture specialty cardboard boxes, like the ones that greeting cards come in. They also make a variety of childrens games and puzzles. Every year around the start of December they have a big Christmas Sale at which you may purchase many of their products for bargain prices. The sale is announced on large banners in their front windows for a couple of weeks before it happens. Coincidently Jessup's main build is the "Opera House" built at the trun of the century by the French brothers, for years the site dances, graduations, chataquas, travelling acts, and other cultural events.
